Allan et al. demonstrated that weedy seadragons significantly preferred golden kelp Ecklonia-dominated habitats, and preferred 40-80% coverage of this macroalgae. They were more likely to be present when mysid prey were also present.
Allan et al. created General Linear Models to determine the most important variables to predict weedy seadragon occurrence. Percent Ecklonia cover and the presence of mysids swarms were significant predictors.
